What is Insulin?

Insulin is a peptide hormone produced by beta cells of the pancreatic islets. It regulates the metabolism of carbohydrates, fats and protein by promoting the absorption of, especially, glucose from the blood into liver, fat and skeletal muscle cells.

History of Insulin

Insulin originates from natural source from herbs, wheat and certain fruits and vegetable.

Uses of Insulin:

  • It is an insoluble fibre which is beneficial to human health.
  • It is necessary for digestive system.
  • It adds sweetness to baked items.
  • It is used in the production of bread and dough.

Advantages of Insulin

Disadvantages of Insulin
